Drone delivery is definitely one of the more interesting things that will be done with UA (Unmanned Aircraft) that will have a direct change on our lives. For example, Amazon is currently working to develop the physical capability and is working with the FAA to develop the legal capability to accomplish this. They plan to have 30 minute delivery for all items less than five pounds within 10 miles of their fulfillment centers. Imagine looking up at any point during the day and seeing a dozen Amazon drones quietly flying hundreds of feet above you.
However helpful goods delivery will be, this technology will soon make another turn from goods to food delivery. According to TechCrunch writer Frederic Lardinois, drones will soon be delivering your pizza. “From a technical point of view, we can do it, [but] it will take regulatory and cultural changes,” she said. “The FAA is right to not allow it today, but more experimentation would be great for the community. [The FAA] has signaled they are open to changing the rules if we can prove it is safe.” For example, Domino's is already devoting research & development resources into creating this technology for future use. From a technical standpoint, this is very amazing. Not to get too excited, but we are watching the future arrive before our very eyes. Flying food is nearly something out of the Jetsons. However, I have one important question, will we need to tip the drone?
